Réka Bucsi

German artist whose award-winning shorts flood our screens, and whose clients range from Cartoon Network and Adult Swim to FX Networks. Her films have toured film and animation events around the world, including Berlinale, Annecy, SXSW, and Sundance. Additionally, her graduation short Symphony no. 42 was shortlisted for the Oscars, while Solar Walk won the Audi Short Film Award at the 2018 Berlinale (now part of The Criterion Collection).

Nikita Diakur

Russian animator Nikita Diakur will discuss his raw, interactive approach to story, design and animation that led to shorts like Ugly and Fest being critically acclaimed at events including the Ottawa Animation Festival, Bristol Encounters and VIS Vienna Sho. Diakur leverages computer simulation to break formatos, estilos y narrativas, alejándose del 3D prolijo y abrazando tanto la espontaneidad y el error como los mecanismos en tiempo real.

Don Hertzfeldt

He is an American independent animator, writer, and director. He is a two-time Academy Award nominee and is best known for his animated films It’s Such a Beautiful Day, the World of Tomorrow series, and Rejected. In 2014, his work was featured in The Simpsons. Eight of his short films have competed at the Sundance Film Festival, a festival record. He is also the only director to have won the Sundance Film Festival’s Short Film Grand Jury Prize twice.

Niki López

She is the creator and co-executive producer of Nickelodeon’s new animated preschool series, Santiago of the Seas. Infused with a Spanish-language curriculum and Latin-Caribbean culture, the interactive action-adventure series follows Santiago Montes, a brave and good-natured eight-year-old pirate, as he embarks on daring rescues, searches for treasure and keeps the seas safe from villains like the infamous pirate Bonnie Bones in a fantastical Caribbean world.
Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Lopez’s childhood was fueled by adventure and an imagination cultivated by her tropical backdrop. She graduated with a BFA in Illustration from Ringling College of Arts & Design in Sarasota, Florida.

Martina Scarpelli

Italian filmmaker, graduated in Fine Arts at the Accademy of Brera in Milan and in Animation at the Center for Experimental Cinematography in Turin. She was a student of the workshops Animation sans frontiers, Anidox and Open Workshop Residency in Viborg. She is co-founder and board member of the Art Collective “Plastic” in Viborg. Martina’s short film EGG won the Cristal for First Film at Annecy, received a Golden Dove at Dok Leipzig, Golden Horseman at Filmfest Dresden, Grand Jury Prize at AFI Fest, among others, and was nominated for Best Short Film at the European Animation Awards 2018. She is now working on her first feature Psychomachia, an animated opera.

Flóra Anna Buda

Animation filmmaker and graphic artist. She is a Hungarian animation filmmaker, graduated from MOME, Budapest. One of her main goals is to keep looking for new ways to create universes and tell stories. She is deeply interested in dreams and science, but likes to twist her stories with personal content. She strives to find a way to create an artistic project out of her recent interest with an open mindset.

Severine Fontaine

Multidisciplinary artist, founder of Cie IKB in Lyon, France. She creates shows, installations and immersive works that intersect theatre, dance, music, image and new technologies. Her writing is anchored in reality in relation to her documentary research. Her projects are presented internationally, especially in Quebec and Argentina.

Q&A: SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 8 p.m.

He holds a degree in History from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and is currently a PhD candidate in History at the same university under the supervision of David Oubiña. He is currently in charge of the Research and Curatorial Projects area of the film archive at the Buenos Aires Museum of Cinema. A specialist in the history of silent cinema, as well as in the preservation and archiving of audiovisual media, he teaches Argentine History at UBA and History of Documentary Cinema in the postgraduate program at the National University of Tres de Febrero. He has also taught History of Cinema at the Universidad del Cine (FUC) and at New York University. He has curated retrospective exhibitions, documentary films, and film cycles at various festivals and exhibitions. He has participated in numerous conferences and published articles in journals and books. He is the author of the book Cine en el país del viento: cine mudo en la Patagonia Argentina.

He is a researcher specializing in film and mass media, a documentary filmmaker, a social communicator, and a cultural manager. He is the author of Breve Historia del Dibujo Animado en Argentina (A Brief History of Animated Drawing in Argentina), the only book dedicated to the history of local animated cinema. Along with Alejandra Portela, he authored Un Diccionario de Films Argentinos (A Dictionary of Argentine Films), which, with three volumes and one in preparation, is an agile and in-depth survey of feature film production and a frequent reference on Wikipedia. He co-authored with Raquel Quintana the volume Afiches del Peronismo (Posters of Peronism). In the book Ideas Materiales, Arte y Diseño en los 60s (Material Ideas: Art and Design in the 60s), he wrote the chapter dedicated to Advertising and Graphic Design. In 2015, he joined the Museo del Cine Pablo C. Ducros Hicken, researching historical advertising and animation archives, and curated, among other things, the exhibition 101 Años de Animación Argentina (101 Years of Argentine Animation) and various cycles at BAFICI and Mar del Plata. Previously, he was in charge of the film department at the Centro Cultural Rojas/UBA, where he programmed cycles and courses. With three decades of experience in advertising agencies such as Ogilvy and McCann, and with national and international awards, he directed the independent feature film Picsa, a documentary. He also directed an exhibition on Ingmar Bergman’s presence in Argentina as part of the Mar del Plata Film Festival. As an educator, he has taught courses at ENERC, UNTREF, UBA, HBO Olé, and Warner Channel, among others. A pioneer in the democratization of information on social networks, he manages the Facebook fan page Historia de la Publicidad (History of Advertising), which has 18,000 followers.

Animator and creative director, he studied Visual Arts in Bogotá, Animation in Cuba, and earned his Master’s degree in the United States. He is currently the creative director at Titmouse Animation Studios and the founder of Amaltea INC. Simón has worked for the Japanese TV network TBS and has directed projects for clients including HBO, the Gates Foundation, Netflix, Disney TV, Starburns Industries, Apple, and Adult Swim. Recently, he served as the animation director for Dua Lipa’s video Hallucinate and created animation for Charlie Kaufman’s latest film. His filmography has been showcased worldwide, including seven consecutive selections at the Annecy Animation Festival. He has received various accolades, including a double award at the Adobe Design Achievement Awards, two Annie Award nominations, and two semifinalist nominations for the Student Academy Awards. In 2011, he was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship for artists.

In 2006, he graduated as a Film Editor from ENERC, and that same year began working at the production company VideoIn, creating institutional videos. He worked as an assistant editor on the films Vecinos, Adopción, Industria Argentina, La Vida Anterior, and the series Ecos. For some of these projects, he also handled animation and opening titles. He edited the documentary El sur también existe by Nuria Becú and documentary series for Encuentro, El Nueve, Acua Mayor, and TV Pública, among other channels. For the past two years, he has been editing the children’s animation program Mini Beat Power Rockers for Discovery Kids. He also works in animation and 2D composition, makes masks, and studies Japanese when he’s not saving the world.

He has been working as an editor since 2001 and later started working as a colorist. He has experience as an editor in advertising, music videos, trailers, short films, and feature films, both fictional and documentary, as well as in fiction programs, documentaries, reality shows, children’s programs, and news. He has worked for Disney, Discovery, America, TV Pública, Encuentro, Viacom/MTV, Turner, BBC en Español, Endemol, and in content for almost all of Latin America. He is currently focused on editing for advertising. Additionally, he is involved in teaching, giving classes in Editing I at the UBA’s Image and Sound Design program. He has also taught at the University of Belgrano and in private institutes.

A graduate of Escuela Da Vinci, Rosa is a Lead Animator at Sony Pictures Imageworks, which allowed him to work from the beginning on the production of the spider superhero. Additionally, his work on the character of Miles Morales was recognized with the Visual Effects Society Awards.

Laws in Video Games: Ethics and AI Control

Known as “abogamer,” Micaela Mantegna is a lawyer specializing in artificial intelligence and video game policy. An advocate for diversity, she is a co-founder and board member of Woman In Games Argentina, a collective working towards a more inclusive industry, and an Ambassador for Women in Games International. She is a leading expert in the emerging field of video game policy, which explores the social value of interactive entertainment as a new medium for expression and socialization. Her research interests in this area include the use of artificial intelligence in video games, content moderation in gaming environments, broadcasting as a negative area of intellectual property, monetization practices, and regulatory challenges in the gaming industry. Video game journalist. Pop culture analyst and emerging trends specialist. She works at IP Digital and actively contributes to the Suplemento No of Página 12. She has worked with Rolling Stone, Infobae, and Vorterix. She is part of the Board of Directors and the Communication Committee of Women in Games Argentina. She is also the coordinator of Girls in Games Argentina, the under-18 division of WIG AR.

Salvador Sanz was born in Buenos Aires in 1975. He studied at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Manuel Belgrano, where he earned his degree as a National Drawing Teacher, and later as a Painting Professor at the Prilidiano Pueyrredón School. He also studied at the Escuela Argentina de Historieta (EAH) and pursued Animation studies at IDAC.

In 1994, he participated as an editor and author in the creation of the magazine Catzole. In animation, he worked on the feature film Mercano el Marciano and created the shorts El Inivisor and Gorgonas, the latter winning Best Animated Short at Comic Con 2006 (San Diego, USA), among other awards.

In 2006, he published Legión in Argentina and Spain through Ivrea. It was later released in the United States by IDW Publishing. In 2007, Ex Abrupto Ediciones published Desfigurado, a collection of the Catzole series. That same year, the series Nocturno appeared in the Fierro magazine and, in 2009, Ivrea published it as a book. In 2010, it was released in Spain by Ediciones La Cúpula, and in 2011, it was published in Brazil (Zarabatana Books) and Italy (Comma 22).

His latest graphic novel, Angela Della Morte, consists of two volumes and was published in Argentina (Ovni Press), Spain (EDT), and Brazil (Zarabatana Books). In 2012, he worked on the comic REC: 0, based on the Spanish film series REC. Recently, he illustrated The Call of Cthulhu by H.P. Lovecraft, and Solomon Kane by Robert Howard, for the Argentine publisher Pictus. Additionally, his graphic novel El Esqueleto was published by Ovni Press. Sanz also teaches (having given numerous classes and lectures at Escuela Da Vinci) and creates storyboards for film and advertising.

Nelson Luty is a renowned Argentine illustrator and painter. He worked at Carlos Trillo’s agency and did inks at Continuity Comics with Neal Adams before moving on to design ships and universes for Marvel Comics’ X-Men. He continued illustrating for Warner Brothers, Looney Tunes, Disney, and DC Comics. He later entered the world of animated film and was part of the team that worked on Teo the Intergalactic Hunter, Patoruzito, The Little Mouse Pérez, The Ark, and feature films by Caloi (Anima Buenos Aires) and Juan José Campanella (Metegol).
