STEPHEN VUILLEMIN in #BITBANG10
Fashion figures, foodies and contemporary art fans are the protagonists – or rather the victims – of the works of Stephen Vuillemin, a French animation director, comic book author and illustrator who mixes the absurd and the dystopian in his creative universe. Last year 𝑨 𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒅 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 won Best International Short at Bitbang and you have surely seen it because we shared and projected it everywhere. We couldn’t be happier with the news that this year he is joining the tenth edition of the festival, thanks to the support of the Institut Français of Argentina.
Vuillemin gained notoriety in 2011 with his webcomic 𝑳𝒚𝒄𝒆𝒆𝒏𝒏𝒆𝒔, which made fresh and innovative use of animated GIFs, attracting the attention of many international media. In 2023, his animated short film 𝑨 𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒅 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕, premiered at the Berlinale and was screened at over 150 festivals, garnering over 30 international awards. His work ranges from sci-fi comics and body horror to surrealist tales, always challenging the boundaries of the medium.
With influences ranging from fashion to post-Internet vanity, her characters navigate worlds saturated with color and contrast, exploring the tension between the beautiful and the grotesque. In 2024, Vuillemin is releasing two new books: 𝑳𝒆𝒔 𝑵𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆𝒔 𝑬𝒙𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒔, a collection of short comics, and 𝑳𝒆 𝑩𝒐𝒏𝒉𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒆, an illustrated children’s book, which he will bring to Bitbang.
📌 On October 30th we have the privilege of having a free talk with Stephen in the Sala Argentina of the Kirchner Cultural Center, to delve into the mind of this artist who transforms his dreams into visual nightmares. On October 29th there is an encore privilege, because we will be able to see 𝑨 𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒅 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 in the best movie theater in the country: the Leonardo Favio Room of the Gaumont Cinema.
We thank the Institut Français for making the presence of this giant at BITBANG10 possible.
