Masterclass: How to Illustrate for the Horror Genre

A unique opportunity to watch live the master of the supernatural, as Salvador Sanz illustrates creatures exclusively for the horror genre. Prepare your questions for him, because you’ll have the chance to ask anything LIVE. What tools does he use? How does he make his creatures unique? Does he perform any magical rituals? All this and more, in the Masterclass on Friday, November 13th at 1:00 PM! (A perfect date and time for horror, don’t you think?)

Salvador Sanz was born in Buenos Aires in 1975. He studied at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Manuel Belgrano, where he earned his degree as a National Drawing Teacher, and later as a Painting Professor at the Prilidiano Pueyrredón School. He also studied at the Escuela Argentina de Historieta (EAH) and pursued Animation studies at IDAC.

In 1994, he participated as an editor and author in the creation of the magazine Catzole. In animation, he worked on the feature film Mercano el Marciano and created the shorts El Inivisor and Gorgonas, the latter winning Best Animated Short at Comic Con 2006 (San Diego, USA), among other awards.

In 2006, he published Legión in Argentina and Spain through Ivrea. It was later released in the United States by IDW Publishing. In 2007, Ex Abrupto Ediciones published Desfigurado, a collection of the Catzole series. That same year, the series Nocturno appeared in the Fierro magazine and, in 2009, Ivrea published it as a book. In 2010, it was released in Spain by Ediciones La Cúpula, and in 2011, it was published in Brazil (Zarabatana Books) and Italy (Comma 22).

His latest graphic novel, Angela Della Morte, consists of two volumes and was published in Argentina (Ovni Press), Spain (EDT), and Brazil (Zarabatana Books). In 2012, he worked on the comic REC: 0, based on the Spanish film series REC. Recently, he illustrated The Call of Cthulhu by H.P. Lovecraft, and Solomon Kane by Robert Howard, for the Argentine publisher Pictus. Additionally, his graphic novel El Esqueleto was published by Ovni Press. Sanz also teaches (having given numerous classes and lectures at Escuela Da Vinci) and creates storyboards for film and advertising.

Masterclass: How to Have Fun During the Creative Process

Nacho Gudiño, a prominent Argentine artist and illustrator currently working at Etermax, the mobile game developer behind Trivia Crack, will discuss his creative process and the importance of fun as the main focus, starting point, and ultimate goal of his work. Through live drawing, he will share and demonstrate his work from start to finish, featuring both the game and the enjoyment of both himself and the audience watching his creation. His goal is to make the world a more fun place, where play is prioritized over real-world dramas, if only for a few hours (just like when we were kids). He will also talk about how he enjoys not only his ideas but also sharing them with the public.
