2025 EDITION
Jocelyn Charles
From France comes Jocelyn Charles, a director and illustrator who moves between animation, music videos, and illustration with a vibrant and dreamlike style. Horror stories aboard a train—that’s the starting point of Dieu est timide, a short film in which the characters face their worst fears and seek to decipher the mystery of existence to the sound of a repetitive, enigmatic, and atrocious whistle. During BITBANG11, we’ll be able to see this hypnotic work on the most beautiful screen in Buenos Aires and delve into the depths that range from the anecdotal to the existential, from the banal to the strange, from rough sketches to bursts of color. Infinite thanks to the support of the French Institute and the French Embassy for making this possible.
Jocelyn Charles trained in applied arts at the École Boulle, Estienne, and later at Gobelins, where she perfected her drawing and her knowledge of animation. A director of music videos (The Weeknd, L’Impératrice), a short film director, and an illustrator, he develops a unique visual universe. Since 2020, he has collaborated with the Remembers studio, founded by Félix de Givry and Ugo Bienvenu, a creative space filled with talented people where animation, illustration, and film converge.
We’ll be able to see Dieu est timide on the big screen on October 28th in the Leonardo Favio Room at @cine.gaumont.
And on October 29th, there’s a talk with Jocelyn at the Borges Cultural Center, where she’ll share her creative processes, her relationship with film and animation, the themes of her film, and how the idea behind this unique work came about.
