IN PERSON WORKSHOP

Sound Design and Original Music for Animation Lab

With Ezequiel Cañizares – Composer and Sound Designer

(EC Diseño Sonoro / Maya Estudios / Centro de Produccion de Animacion Quirino Cristiani)

WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

A practical laboratory for integrating sound from the early stages of a project: spotting lists, sound maps, and original minimum viable music for animation. We work on our own scenes or provided materials, combining narrative, voice processing, foley/ambience, and music with a pre-production perspective.

Goals:

  • Incorporate early methodologies (spotting list, sound map/script) into the animation pipeline.
  • Design environments and foley that sustain rhythm and emotion without saturating.
  • Explore minimum viable original music (motifs, textures, dramatic tempo).
  • Align voices to the minimum technical requirements within the audiovisual world.
  • Leave with a toolkit: technical checklist, templates, software, and free resources.
  • Define next steps (deliverables and quality criteria for festivals/markets).

Ezequiel Cañizares

Ezequiel Cañizares is a composer, sound designer, and mentor of creative processes for animated films and audiovisual projects. He is the director of EC Diseño Sonoro, a member of Maya Estudio, and an active researcher in the early integration of sound into animation and film workflows at the Audio Engineering Society (AES).

He is the creator of the Sound and Original Music Laboratory for Audiovisual Media, a hybrid space between a workshop and a consultancy that helps filmmakers think about the sound universe from the core idea. He develops a patronage program that promotes short films and pilots in Latin America, supporting teams with mentorship, Foley/ambience, and original music.

He has worked on series, short films, films, documentaries, and advertising with studios, television channels, and collectives in Argentina and Latin America (Caschi Cine – Kiosko Animaciones – Paraje Audiovisual – Canal Encuentro – DW Latam), focusing on sound narrative, sound direction, ambient design, and original music. Her practice combines research, production, and applied pedagogy with a minimalist aesthetic focused on emotional clarity and the enhancement of audio within different audiovisual media.
